Dear Olympia.
A few days ago I came across the article on the young Athenian girl, Myrtis, which I prefer to call Myrto.  It is a recent archaeological find, which places the young girl in the era of the Peloponnese-an war.  I doubt it is supported that the young girl died from the plague that killed so many Athenians, at that time.  The dead of the plague were burned to safeguard the health of the living.
A friend of mine was disturbed by the poor rendering of the girl.
Young girls, she observed correctly, are still carrying their baby fat at the age of 11, and past that, clearly to the age of 18.
The rendering of Myrtis, stripped off the succulent muscles of the young girl, as well as the fat, both of which give to all the young faces the muscular elasticity, pliability and flexibility, so noted to youth.
These rich muscles give to young children a well rounded face, concealing amply the bone structure beneath, which in later years stretches  and widens to give, to girls, the feminine beauty.
So, our little Myrtis, was skeletal in her facial appearance, with false jaw bones.
So, we reconstructed the young Athenian, to look more like a young Greek girls, and less like a light skinned Egyptian mommy!
I am sending you MYRTIS-MYRTO as she should be.
Please pass it on to other webs, that the Greeks may be PROUD of their genetic ancestry!
candidly
